Salem Witch Trials update

Global warming recently is global cooling. Meh. The Cappadocians who worship global warming will worship global cooling, with global catastrophes to follow if you do not join their global religion. It’s really very weird that they seek this god, but it is reminiscent of ancient days. They live in a universe unconnected to the Adam Smith world of supply and demand.

We don’t need Arthur Miller anymore to explain the Salem witch trials. We’re living it in real time. (BTW, we read an unusual book today, Proof of Heaven. If you have thoughts, positive or negative on this book, we’d be very interested in them.)

Bonus fun: Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun…..

I have not read the book, except for excerpts, but I know the story. And it’s bang on topic with the first paragraph.

We have all been taught that science can provide definitive answers to every question, eventually, given enough data. This is nothing new–the germ of the idea goes back to the Middle Ages, and it was in full bloom by the Victorian Era. Thus, we “know” that the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics means that the Universe will end in a heat death, slowly winding down like an unattended clock–unless it ends in the Big Crush. We know that we just need a slightly more complicated theory to achieve the Grand Unification of physics–perhaps string theory, or the umpty-umpth epicycle of the Higgs Boson. We “know” that anthropogenic CO2 emissions will “destroy” our environment.

And, of course, everybody knows that there is no God, there is no afterlife, and the idea that God had a Son by a Virgin is simply laughable.

The problem is, regardless of the merits of any one of those “knowns”, science cannot provide definitive eternal truths. The body of scientific knowledge itself tells us that–quantum mechanics and chaos theory literally demonstrate that anything is possible, and that there are things we cannot know.

The fact is that the universe is full of wonders, if we have only the humility to see them.
