A “news” story

NYT, not an opinion piece but front page “news”:

As Midterm Vote Nears, Trump Reprises a Favorite Message: Fear Immigrants – President Trump’s closing argument is now clear: Build tent cities for migrants. End birthright citizenship. Fear the caravan. Send active-duty troops to the border. Refuse asylum. Immigration has been the animating issue of the Trump presidency, and now — with the possibility that Republicans could face significant losses in the midterm elections on Tuesday — the president has fully embraced a dark, anti-immigrant message in the hope that stoking fear will motivate voters to reject Democrats. In a rambling speech on Thursday afternoon that was riddled with falsehoods and vague promises to confront a “crisis” at the border, Mr. Trump used the official backdrop of the White House to step up his efforts to demonize a caravan of Central Americans that has been making its way through Mexico, assail Democrats, and promote a vision of a United States that would be better off with fewer immigrants. The president also played fast and loose with the truth. At one point, he said that 97 percent of immigrants apprehended at the border and released into the United States do not show up for their trials; the number is closer to 28 percent.

Hey, only 270 of the 14,000 are a problem. Calm down.

    Yep.

It’s obvious from the NYT’s comments that they are fearful that Trump’s proposals/remarks will resonate with Americans.

Trump lies when the truth will do.

Hey, only 270 of the 14,000 are a problem.

Thousands of people reach the U.S. border every year. That they are in a caravan doesn’t change the basic dynamics. Based on previous situations, most in the caravan will stay in Mexico. Some will apply for asylum. A few will attempt to cross the border illegally. Vilifying the vast majority because of a small minority is essentially racist. Calling up the military to handle what is largely an law enforcement and bureaucratic issue is pandering to fear.

    Criminals

Hey, Zachriel, spew at us about “white privilege”, “white fragility”, “white supremacy”, and “toxic masculinity”. Just so we’ll know what it looks like when somebody wants to criminalize whole big groups of people. Then you can go back to squealing “waaaayyyycisss!” in that shrill, peevish soprano voice of yours.
