Reality TV’s new show

In 2016 the Evil One got 8% of the African American vote. Now we turn to the Atlantic for sober, subdued down-the-middle journalism on recent events:

“What the hell do you have to lose?” Trump said, addressing his question to black voters. The point, he said, was that African American communities were already a shambles, and their condition could only improve. The remarks drew shocked reactions at the time. Three years later, as the president attacks Representative Elijah Cummings, a Baltimore Democrat, the answer to his question is clear. Trump has sabotaged a law that guaranteed health insurance for many African Americans. He has undermined protections for voting rights. His Justice Department has stopped going after police departments that discriminated against African Americans. He has rolled back environmental protections. Beyond policy, he has used rhetoric that suggests the citizenship of African Americans and other minorities is conditional and less than that of white Americans.

8% is pretty close to zero. The Evil One knows Reality TV very well, and this is a new show. Every day his detractors say the same boring thing, Racist!, in a voice that sounds like this, only louder and louder. If he can turn 8% into 16%, let alone something truly amazing like 24%, he will have accomplished a lot. Let’s get some popcorn and stay tuned.

Added fun: The Wicked Witch and her friends are all over the Ratcliffe appointment. Here’s hoping that Barr’s people can get nice new striped outfits for the likes of Clapper, Brennan and Comey.
