Tiny funny point re CNN (yawn)

CNN (of course) via AT:

One of the last times the United States bought land from a foreign country was in 1867, when Seward orchestrated the purchase of Alaska from the Russians for $7.2 million. It didn’t work out so well — and has gone down as ‘Seward’s Folly‘ in the history books.

The US paid less than 2 cents an acre for Alaska, and the state might have 16 billion barrels of oil, most of it owned by the US government. At current prices, that’s almost $1 trillion. Seward’s Folly indeed.

    Oh really?

Is the author completely ignorant of history, the strategic importance of Alaska, and the minerals the state has produced?

I wish the author had expanded on that thought. I would speculate that such an expatiation would include such nonsense as destroying the environment and oppressing the natives as well as a diatribe on evil white men. Better that anyone but the USA be sovereign over that piece of geography.
