Getting a little fun from the war

USAT:

More than 2,000 former Justice Department officials called on Barr to resign Sunday, claiming his handling of the Stone case “openly and repeatedly flouted” the principle of equal justice. “Although there are times when political leadership appropriately weighs in on individual prosecutions, it is unheard of for the department’s top leaders to overrule line prosecutors, who are following established policies, in order to give preferential treatment to a close associate of the president, as Attorney General Barr did in the Stone case,” the letter reads.

Mollie Hemingway points out at least 27 problems with the characterizations of Barr by the Most Vile Holy Ones in Washington.

And now for the fun. It is the best year ever for Democrats who got convicted of nasty things, since quite a few of them will get pardons or sentence commutations like former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich just did. We don’t know what the politics of Mike Milken might be, but since he gets publicly praised by Bill Clinton he can’t be a rabid right-winger. So hang on Stone, Manafort, General Flynn, etc., and whoever else the CCB Darth Vaders target; help is on the way when you’re just 3 guys among 200 D’s and R’s pardoned.

We actually expect quite a lot of bi-partisan pardoning and commuting, and the appearance of Mr. Kerik suggests that the author of this strategy may be Mayor Giuliani.

Blago’s commuted sentence puzzles me. Politically, Trump gains nothing from the Right in commuting the sentence, and this act wouldn’t even budge the needle on the Dem’s pegged out hate meter towards Trump.

    So why do it?

The cynic in me wonders if someone campaigned for Blago’s release and gave Trump something in return. One wonders what that could be?

Or maybe Trump is just that magnanimous, and wanted to correct a wrong in what he sees as an egregious sentence, because he has so little else to do?

Why didn’t 0bama pardon him on his last day in office? Wouldn’t have bothered the media a bit.

    Re DOJ

I believe I heard on NPR that the DOJ is staffed by Dems to the tune of 97%. It’s no wonder that former officials want him removed. It would also go a long way in explaining why Manafort and Stone are in jail, and Flynn has lost everything while nothing is done to Deep Staters.
