    re Trump

IIRC, Trump didn’t think the Coronavirus was a very big deal when it first appeared. My belief is what happened to change his stance was indeed politics 101. I would speculate that he was advised that if he just let the epidemic run its course, he would be blamed for the deaths, and the inevitable economic downturn (It surely wouldn’t be as bad as it is, but the scare tactics would have created some economic drag for sure.). OTOH, if he got on board with the ruling class he could be portrayed as a decisive leader and a man who cared about the sick. The resulting economic downturn could then be blamed on keeping the electorate safe. Anyway, Government, when faced with crisis, always has to “do something” even if its wrong.

I think Trump gained more than he lost with his position on the coronavirus. Can’t say the same for the nation.

I believe what he did was good politics but bad for the country.

NASA Marks 50 Years Since Apollo 13 Mission

I was in the 8th grade and was so naive that in my mind there was zero doubt that Apollo 13 would make it safely home. I viewed all the ensuing problems that cropped up after the explosion to be trivial matters being sensationalized by the media to draw ratings.

It was years later before I realized how close those men came to dying.

It was indeed NASA’s finest hour.
