Reading Osama in Teheran

If your news about America came from watching CNN International, reading the New York Times, and watching Fahrenheit 911, you would think America is anti-war. Iraq is Vietnam, Fallujah is Tet, Abu Ghraib is My Lai, and Americans are conducting an endless orgy of self-flagellation.

If you were a master strategist, as well as a psychopath, you’d want to stand aside while the country unilaterally surrrenders, or assist with a gentle appeal to the anti-war majority in the United States. You might, for example, endorse Michael Moore for President. Flower power, man:

Security is an important foundation of human life and free people do not squander their security, contrary to Bush’s claims that we hate freedom. Let him tell us why we did not attack Sweden for example.

Imagine bin Laden living in Teheran, or indeed, still in an Afgan cave, with his new kidney or his dialysis machine. He’s praying for the day that he can sail one of the mullah’s nukes up the Patomac or the East River. But the mullahs have to get their nukes first, so the United States must be stopped from taking action against Iran. Osama would clearly prefer a Kerry Presidency, since Kerry’s spokesman have clearly said he will not stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons. Osama’s speech is meant to galvanize the anti-war base; I almost said his anti-war base. The only question is this: how large is that Michael Moore, NYT, CNN International pacifist movement?

It’s not small: Fahrenheit 911 has grossed over $200 million.

This is a world war, ladies and gentlemen. Osama is not giving up. He’s not calling calling it quits or asking for an entente or time-out (Wretchard), except if time-out means just enought time to get a shiny new bomb to blow us to smithereeens. Mohammed El Baradei is actively assisting the mullahs in getting their nukes. What makes you sure they will not use them?
