Trending blue or trending red?

Take a look at this map, from the graphics providers for CBS news, and ask yourself — if you could only judge by the map itself — will the country trend blue or red in the future.

That enormous concentration of blue in tiny geograpic areas (yes, I’m aware they are called cities, thank you) would be a little disconcerting to me if I were trying to sell a product. Check out Cook County by the way. Now that’s Democratic!

  1. David/California Says:

    An observation and a question:

The observation – I don’t see red and blue states in most of the demographic maps that have been produced. I see a red country with blue enclaves.

The question – Has anyone correlated the Democratic areas of support with the prevalence of union-controlled government schools, or below average academic performance in grades K-12? Antecdotal evidence on spoiled ballots and literacy suggests there may be a direct correlation.
