Your correspondent’s second airplane flight was on a virtually empty American Airlines B747 in 1971 from SFO to JFK, back in the days when you got off at the Milbrae exit to find your way to the San Francisco airport. The plane was so empty that I was able to sit in the upstairs lounge for a while on my $104 ticket.

Beldar found his way onto a 747 before it was even certified for passenger service. Great stuff.
