“Not necessarily be in power”

You may recall that quote from near the end of the second presidential debate — the one in St. Louis with Charlie Gibson.

Now read this Belgravia Dispatch piece and think of what that kind of uncertain resolve would mean, not only for Afganistan and Iraq, but for the many dominoes in the Middle East teetering today.

Like Roger Simon, we are well aware that democratization is a process which will have large and serious setbacks, but with the firm resolve shown by the United States today, the authors of those setbacks will in truth not necessarily be in power for too long.
