Airworthiness Directives are rather common; they typically call for an inspection or replacement or a part by a certain date, often several years in the future. Emergency Airworthiness Directives are pretty rare, and indicate a higher level of concern. The Emergency AD issued by France on March 21 for the A300 family needs to be done within 550 hours or by June 18. We wrote about the events leading up to this action previously.

According to AvWeb, “France’s civil aviation regulator has issued an Emergency Airworthiness Directive calling for the one-time visual and tap-test inspection.” You may decide for yourself just how safe a tap-test inspection makes you feel.
