“I think this guy is a loser”
Las Vegas Review Journal on Harry Reid:
In the course of a discussion on filibusters and Senate rules, Washington’s top Democrat gave the 60 juniors a lesson in partisan politics, particularly about the commander in chief. “The man’s father is a wonderful human being,” Reid said in response to a question about President Bush’s policies. “I think this guy is a loser.
Hmmm. Two elections, including getting the most votes in American presidential history, extension of gains in the House and Senate, two victorious wars/fronts with the liberation of 50 million people, the first Arab democracy, two — or was it three — tax cuts, medicare and education reform, campaign finance “reform,” the first serious attempt at Social Security reform, and probably a few other things.
How very odd. You don’t have to agree with all or even any of what George Bush has done to see him as a man of great consequence and achievement. We certainly dislike important parts of the Bush legislative legacy, but “loser” would be an inappropriate way to characterize George Bush, even if we viewed his program as mistaken or dangerous. Let’s put it this way: if George Bush is a loser in Harry Reid’s worldview, does that imply he views Democrats as “winners” today?

Senator Reid, the national example. (Sigh)
