Actress and activist Jane Fonda says she intends to take a cross-country bus tour to call for an end to U.S. military operations in Iraq. “I can’t go into any detail except to say that it’s going to be pretty exciting,” she said. Fonda said her anti-war tour in March will use a bus that runs on “vegetable oil.”

I am a Vietnam Vet. I may not have wanted to be in that war, but I did support my Country and fellow soldiers in our efforts to end it. Jane was and still is a person who has no experience with the reality of life. She is only a poor actress whose life reflects a false reality of a pretend world where she feels she makes a difference. I am not mad at her but I feel sorry for her confused selfish view of reality. Get a clue, Jane. protest something protestable like terrorism and the killing of innocent victims. If you have an alternative plan for protecting the US from terrorist acts, put it out in the light of day. My guess is that you believe fighting against terrorism is exactly what causes terrorism. Rational people understand that the creation of a free state in the Middle East is the only way to stop extremist factions from performing irrational acts of martyrdom. He actions emboldened our enemy. Helping our own troops get mutilated is NOT a Christian thing to do. Also, what do you say to the millions of oppressed people in Iraq that are now free from Saddam’s Regime. Because the US did the right thing, many people are now free in heart of the middle east. It’s interesting to note that in early Roman times actors were considered to be equal to prostitutes as both were known to be “pretenders”. I am currently serving, and I do not feel that this is the President’s personal vendetta. All the press made a loud uproar when the WMDs that Saddam Hussein had 12 years to hide weren’t found immediately, but I heard very little when when Saddam’s officials basically said “of course we’re researching more powerful weapons.” I read only one mention — and nowhere near the front page that — of multiple mass graves of massacre victims. The state of affairs in Iraq is definitely not perfect but there are many improvements: people vote, women are allowed to go to school, teachers can teach subjects with appropriate textbooks instead of the Taliban-mandated Koran for any subject (even math). Soldiers are not mindless animals, we are there to improve the world.

You say our soldiers are dying for nothing, what about all of the people who are killed every day because of the ignorant blinders people like you put on to keep from seeing what is going on in the world. NO ONE can legitimately argue that we ARE the world SUPERPOWER, and with that comes the responsibility to act as such. We can not go though life ignoring the atrocities that are occurring over in the Middle East daily. Finally, someone has had the guts to stand up and take action and I applaud the President of the United States for doing so. Secondly, have you stopped to ask the soldiers, the true PATRIOTS what they think of this war. Probably not, seeing as though you cannot even spell patriot. I have several friends, co-workers, and family members over in the Middle East right now, fighting for your freedom to express your opinion. I am quite sure that you don’t think of that though. All you think of is the fact that you disagree with the President and want to voice your opinion. My request to you is this: Stop for a moment and think of what it costs for you to be able to say the things you have. Take a trip to Arlington Cemetery and remember for a moment the sacrifices that the men and women of our Armed Forces have made, not only for you, but for everyone in the world, because they, UNLIKE YOURSELF, understand that this is the role we accepted along with the title of global superpower. Furthermore, I implore you to follow your own advice, and think for yourself, FULLY THINK it through before you start posting. It is obvious to me that you haven’t really given this much thought, or you would at least be able to spell properly. And before you start bad-mouthing the great people of this country, you should at a bare minimum, learn to spell AMERICAN and PATRIOTIC! I think these are two pretty important words. It is an amazing thing … “Only in America ” as they say is this kind of protesting allowed if Jane was in China I do not think she would be alive to make another statement against her country again! It is one thing to speak amongst friends and family about your opinions it is quite another when you use it to discredit a country and the young men and women serving their country.

How does Hanoi Jane feel about John “worthless” Kerry acting out the role of the American soldier on his own film, and then being for the Iraqi war? No against it! No for it! Here’s the deal on Iraq.
They were no threat to the U.S. The Bush administration dropped the ball in Afghanistan where the taliban and alqeada reside so he could go into Iraq where he wanted to go from the day he was apointed by the supreme court to be president.
Only fools believe that they hate us because we are free.
Only fools believe that we are fighting them there so we won’t have to fight them here.
I wonder if the British soldiers in Iraq think that they are fighting and dieing so bombs won’t go off in their home land while bombs go off in their home land.
Bin Ladin has about a billion muslims to draw from and most of them were against Alqueda and their terror tactics until bush went into iraq. Bush has made ist possible for Alqueda to recruit 2 or 3 times as many terrorists as before. They can now train them in a live war situation into hardened experienced fighters. We are all in more danger now then if the bushwar had never been.
George used 700 million dollars that congress set aside for Afghanistan, to go into Iraq just when our intell said we were getting close to Bin Ladin. The best in special opps personel were pulled from Afghanistan just as they were getting close.
The Bush war is a war of the wealthy elite for oil control and illegal profits in the billions (there is still 7 or 8 billion missing and unacounted for). Stollen by the bush adminsitration from your tax dollars for their friends.
On patriotism.
Anyone who thinks that the wealthy elite class in this country is sending the sons and daughters of the rest of us off to war for false claims of a threat that didn’t actually exist, while they and their own sons and daughters live high and will never see a battle field should and must speak up. It is their patriotic duty. Those who don’t are cowards.
Even if it means they will be attacked by all the ignorant “Jesus loving” warmongers who think that if Jesus was here he would carry a gun to kill God’s children in Iraq while letting millions starve in Niger and millions more be slaughterd in Sudan, even if they will be called unpatriotic while doing the most patriotic thing one can do (short of the noble act of offering ones life and limb defense of his or her fellows), still one should speak up.
There is a great quote that says “My country right or wrong”. Most of you supposed Patriots are forgeting the whole quote. It goes like this. “My country, right or wrong. When right I’ll stand beside it (And I always will do that) When wrong I’ll try to right it”
If you believe your counrty is acting wrong and you don’t do something about it then all those brave men and women who have died for our freedom have died in vain in your case.
Though Jane is a dolt and a lighting rod for the irrational right, she is standing up to try to right her country. As many of you hate filled “Christians” have correctly noted, she will do more harm to her cause than good. Hence I wish she would shut up.
Bush’s daughters by the way, will never see a battle field. It is easy to send the children of the poor off to war. Bush never saw a battle field nor did Cheny, or Wolfowitz, nor most of the big name Republicans. They are all Chicken-hawks. Chicken to go to war and yet hawkishly brave and quick to pull the triger when it comes to sending other men to die in thier war.
If you boneheads want to support the troops then write a letter to bush who is happy to send young people to die and be maimed in war while he cuts 200 million from the budget of the veterans administration.
Ask him to support our troops; our brave and noble men and women who willingly put them selves in harms way for the rest of us (even if the war isn’t really for the rest of us) and got crippled and maimed and now where is the thanks from all you eager war supporters.

Have any of you people who think this war is purely a political machination & personal vendetta for Bush really HEARD what the Islamic Fundamentalists are saying?!? They HATE us! I mean true-blue-want-us-dead, hate us. And not just “us” here in the U.S., ANYONE who does not believe in their ways. We are infidels. Do you know what that means? “Heathen: a person who does not acknowledge your God.” Do you understand what the Koran says about infidels? That is what the beheadings are all about. These fundamentalists/terrorists don’t even care about their own people. They bomb children for Pete’s sake! These terrorists have been planning jihad for many, many years & they are systematically going about their plans to make sure all the infidels (or as many as they can take out) are eliminated. You people who fight for the terrorists so-called “rights” have no clue. They will not spare you just because you voice concern for them or believed in their cause or even criticize your own country. The only way you will be spared is if you JOIN them. Do not be fooled into thinking that if we pull out of Iraq & don’t bother these people ever again that we will be free from their hatred & violence. This is not a war that we can win in Iraq for this is a war against the whole non-Muslim world. WAKE UP!

Mark Kern. Funny you should think that the sons and daughters of the poor and ignorant are the only ones in battle. Perhaps if you would pull your head out of your ass long enough to actually talk to a soldier or two you would be enlightened. My college educated son, the son and grandson of college educated men and women is currently in Iraq; along with the sons and daughters of many other educated and successful people. My millionaire neighbor’s son is currently on his second tour in Iraq as a Combat Infantryman.
While I cannot speak for any of the others, I can assure you that my son proudly wears the powder blue CIB he earned by laying his life on the line to not only protect you, but to aid in the spread of freedom in the Middle East. He understands duty. He understands honor. You, sir, obviously do not.
May Hanoi Jane fester in an endless Hell, infested with maggots and in excruciating pain, but unable to die.

Lisa Gilliam on this thread also was right on about you and others like you..What Fonda did in Viet Nam was treason, although I believe civilians cannot be charged with that…She walked away with a smile and smirk on her face…How dare her when thousands of Americans lost there lives fighting for this country..There are many issues regarding the fact that our troops were there in the first place, but bottom line, we were….Now Fonda is starting a Bus Tour to protest our guys in Iraq….When she puts her life on the line, then and only then should she protest…

You are in serious denial about the intent of Islamic radicalism. Denial can be seductive, Mary, but it has an insidious side effect. For all the peace of mind those who deny think they get
by saying it isn’t so, the fall they take when faced with new violence is all the more unsettling.
Denial is a save-now-pay-later scheme, Mary, a contract written entirely in small hidden print. In the long run, the denying person knows the truth on some level and will ultimately live to regret being the sheep when the violence hits close to home.

How can anyone with half a brain think they can be “sweet and kind” to the enemy who wants only to KILL all of the infidels (US!). It’s like trying to reason with a maniac who is holding a machete to your neck. As for Jane Fonda, let’s take up a collection so we can ship her and her bus over to Iraq – and please put her in the lead patrol. I am a Viet Nam Vet and have never been mad at Ms. Fonda and I have never thought that War was a good thing, But I would think that after all this time the woman could figure it out and realize that her actions are against the Troops and what they are forced to do, not the idiots that send them there. We should support those who fight the battles to the max and not cast a cloud over them.
