Witness for the Prosecution — NOT
If there were a criminal trial in the Wilson-Plame affair, Judith Miller would be an excellent witness, not for the prosecution, but for the defense. Scooter Libby confirmed or told Miller about Plame, but so did other sources: other reporters, Joe Wilson himself, who knows? Her former attorney, Floyd Abrams, has now confirmed this, via Powerline:
I spoke to Mr. Fitzgerald, the prosecutor, and he did not agree at that time to something that he later did agree to, which was to limit the scope of the questions he would ask, so as to assure that the only source he would effectively be asking about was Mr. Libby. She has other sources and was very concerned about the possibility of having to reveal those sources, or going back to jail because of them.
In a criminal trial of Rove or Libby, there would be a big parade of all those who knew and yacked about Varlerie Plame, the world’s least secret secret agent. Miller and her multiple sources would lead the parade, with blabbermouth Joe Wilson himself probably right behind. By not telling the grand jury about all her sources on Plame a year ago, Judith Miller has helped waste a lot of time and taxpayer money.
