The “amazing high” of those who have a “different perspective”

Kurt Vonnegut in The Australian:

Vonnegut suggested suicide bombers must feel an “amazing high“. He said: “You would know death is going to be painless, so the anticipation – it must be an amazing high.”

Chris Matthews in the Toronto Sun:

“The period between 9/11 and Iraq was not a good time for America. There wasn’t a robust discussion of what we were doing”…..”If we stop trying to figure out the other side, we’ve given up. The person on the other side is not evil — they just have a different perspective.”

The original title of this piece was: “The evil acts of our enemy,” but that was ruled too judgmental. We feel sometimes that we are living in a world that is literally insane. (HT’s: Ace, Lileks)
