Huge grosses for gay cowboy flick……………hmmmm
Variety, which on the same page showed, in tiny script, that Narnia did $67 million this weekend:
“Brokeback,” which was named best picture by the L.A. Film Critics Assn. over the weekend, made an astounding $544,549 on five plays in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, for an average of $108,910.
Gee, it must be an “astounding” film; the huge grosses couldn’t be because the film targeted a highly motivated audience? No, perish the thought. Let’s watch and see where the numbers top out. Remember, the unreported truth is that gay America is 4% of adults, at least as measured by who votes.
UPDATE
A film review of sorts from Ace.

This is not your average Bambi flick -it is not a family flick. This film was made to give credibility to the gay lifestyle among the larger straight community, as in, see we’re cowboys – one of you.
You’re right:this was targeted to a favorable audience – NY and San Francisco.
It won’t fly in Stuebenville Ohio for sure -any more than selling jock straps to a crocheting convention would.
On the other hand if that convention were held in San Francisco…hmmmm!

Apparently the release of Brokeback Mountain was only in a few theaters and only to make it eligible for the Academy Awards next month. The real wide release will be in January.
– not that I think it’s going to set any box office records anyway.
