Desperately seeking new clichés

VDH takes on Flightplan, Syriana and Munich and their anti-American or defeatist biases. It’s all so tiresome, isn’t it, the dreck that comes out of Hollywood. However, there’s part of it that is not tiresome: the studios are losing money on these dogs. So far the US grosses are $125 million for the three films and the production costs are around $175 million. We understand that the studios get about 55% of the gross, so the profit picture looks bad. These numbers aren’t entirely fair because Munich has just been released, Flightplan has done $100 million or so overseas, and DVD’s have become a dominant source of revenue. However, the numbers indicate the failure of the Leftist Utopians to sell their vision at a profit. (Our related thoughts on Brokeback Mountain are here.)

When it comes to Hollywood, we echo Samuel Goldwyn: include us out.
