Multiculturalism is a one-way ticket to sharia and the millet system

Tom Bevan explains, linking to this article about John Howard’s rejection of multiculturalism in favor of some basic Australian identitiy of shared values — not including jihad and oppression of women. Note the quotations from Mr. Roude of the Islamic Council, who contends that multiculturalism is the Australian way.

UPDATE II

Multiculturalism is, among other things, a form of appeasement on the part of a country that wants to be nice or has lost its belief in itself or both. Appeasement, of course, never appeases, and we note this cartoon from Dr. Seuss from just before Pearl Harbor (via Volokh). Doesn’t that seem a little like where we are today (we have long argued that 9-11 was not necessarily our new Pearl Harbor)?

Where did you get that from? In 1876, the US Federal Government appeased Southern whites by allowing black civil rights to go unenforced, and no-one lost out except the blacks themselves. The Southerners certainly didn’t try to re-secede from the Union or re-introduce slavery.

In the 1920s the British and French appeased Turkish dictator Kemal Ataturk, at the expense of the Greeks and the Kurds. The West has never had any trouble with Turkey since, except for one very minor dispute over Cyprus.

Hitler was the exception, not the rule. Appeasement is like treason – it “doth never prosper” for when it does, none dare call it appeasement.
