Sounds guilty to us

Like a lot of people, we read the Da Vinci Code, which we thought had a mystical power — the mystical power to get untolled numbers of people to buy claptrap in hard cover at $25.95 a copy. Now that’s an author who can mesmerize an audience better than a Las Vegas hypnotist. Otherwise, we found the book formulaic and….dumb. Now we see that author Dan Brown is on trial for stealing his ideas, and if this AP story about his testimony is true, he sure looks like he might be guilty:

Responding to questions from the plaintiffs’ attorney, Brown said much of the research for the book was done by his wife, Blythe. “She was deeply passionate about the sacred feminine,” Brown said.

When you’re simultaneously (a) mouthing phrases like like “sacred feminine” on the witness stand, and (b) blaming your wife for bad research, it looks to us like you are playing for sympathy from two halves of the jury at the same time. He’s fortunate we are not the judge: Guilty!
