Then it can tell advertisers, "We're the sole channel in X airports and Y restaurants with N zillion customers." More watchers- even unwilling, captive, irritated watchers- means more advertising revenue. Ted turner is a jackass, but he's not a stupid jackass. Remember where his first fortune originated? Billboards. I bought myself a TV-B-GONE and merrily turn CNN off whenever I encounter public tubes.
