North Vietnam sent troops and materiel into South Vietnam to destabilize and destroy its democracy. Read this piece by Wretchard. Perhaps Teheran is the new Hanoi, and Baghdad the new Saigon. To the extent that the analogy is correct, there are clear military and policy implications so that we do not make the same mistake twice.
