Mumbai and the real damage from the SWIFT disclosures
We have written about SWIFT before. The Mumbai bombing today again shows why it was irresponsible for the NYT to out the program: (a) it was effective; and (b) international cooperation is key to shutting down people and funds flows that enable terrorism. (See Lormel piece on both aspects.)
The NYT’s disclosures have seriously wounded efforts at international cooperation, as the emerging EU and other inquiries demonstrate. As a result, others will be killed and seriously wounded as well. We certainly hope, along with Hugh Hewitt, that there will be a day of reckoning.
