“You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you”

Pardon us, but we never heard that line before today. Roger Simon says it’s Trotsky, though we have seen that disputed. Mark Steyn says it opens Alan Furst’s Night Soldiers, but we don’t think that’s right either. Wherever the phrase comes from, it has great resonance today.

“You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.” When we think of that phrase we are reminded of the epic irresponsibility of the MSM today. They refuse to engage, or to frame correctly, issues which are of the most critical importance. Should we survive, histories will be written of their willful blindness; we think that in many cases this blindness will be called criminal by generations yet unborn.

Van derLeun at American Digest also credited Trotsky
at the end of his recent poem to the War – “This ain’t No
    Disco” IIRC is the title.

I am thinking that all the PC nonsense from the Admin is
    REVERSE PSYCH at work.

Consider fact that Libertarians join the LEFT in their fear of “Christian Theocracy” under the Christian GW.

Consider the howls if the FBI* immediately identified this as Islamic Terrorism.

By going the PC route, average Americans are making up their own minds. Just see the immigration polls that show majority of Americans are fed up.

The Admin could never take the Press/LSM on head on, but
the falling ratings and subcriptions show that the American public knows the LSM if full of crap!
They are being destroyed in a very “PC” way, aren’t they?

When true crackdown comes it is best that it bubbles up from grassroots, which is happening.

May also be part of Israeli Cabinet meeting to not only keep their public in support of the war but to have Bush and Blair thru Condi telling them they can’t back down now!

Reverse psych can work on many levels. GW isn’t running again but immigration hearings taking place all summer, as supporters of Lebanon/Hezballah march and protest in our country.

Have faith that Americans can put 2 and 2 together.

The liberals will just rewrite that history to suite their agenda anyway. Not to worry.

  3. phil Says:

I heard it attributed to Trotsky as ” You may not be interested in the Revolution, but the Revolution is interested in you.”

Which I adapted as “You may not be interested in Jihad, but Jihad is interested in you.”

And I think that is the appropriate response to those, primarily on the left who, it is quite clear, don’t get this.

Spout all the conservative rhetoric you want but ultimately people vote with their feet. Assuming that roughly half the U.S. is Republican that should be enough to fill the ranks. So where all the right wingers joining the army to go fight in Iraq?
Right, its time to put up or shut up and all you fat cats do is keep on talking. The Iraq war is being fought by the sons and daughters of working class stiffs while you Republicans send your children to college to learn how to manage multinational corporations. Corporations that laugh at hiring an American as long as there is a Chinaman or an Indian who will work for rice and peanuts.

What a surprise. Foreign countries don’t play nice. As they say, “You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you”
The WH budget presents a choice of two futures
    The death of global warming…

  6. Aristotle Says:

“You may not be interested in politics, but politics is interested in you.”

[Originally attributed to Pericles, but since then attributed to Leon Trotsky, Marshall Berman and others. Trotsky more likely used the word "war" in place of "politics," paraphrasing Pericles. Anyway, Pericles wins by 2,400 hundred years seniority.]

Reminds me of Yakov Smirnoff: “In America, you can always find a party. In Soviet Russia, Party finds YOU.”
