News from Ohio and Somalia: the fallacy of the “clash of civilizations”

From Ahmad Al-Akhras, Vice chairman of national Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in the Columbus Dispatch:

What has happened in Somalia, for the majority of Somalis inside and those who are abroad, is a positive change. I truly suggest that we should not prejudge this change, or any change for that matter, based on the religious affiliation of those in power. It seems to me that there is a lot of misunderstanding when it comes to Muslims, Islam, Arabs and Palestinian issues…Promoting the fallacy of the “clash of civilizations” will not help our community.

Meanwhile in Somalia, via AP:

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Residents of a southern Somalia town who do not pray five times a day will be beheaded, an Islamic courts official said Wednesday, adding the edict will be implemented in three days…Those who do not follow this edict “will definitely be beheaded according to Islamic law,” [Sheik Hussein Barre] Rage told The Associated Press by phone. “As Muslims, we should practice Islam fully, not in part, and that is what our religion enjoins us to do.”

As the fellow from Ohio said, promoting the fallacy of the “clash of civilizations” will not help matters. No “clash of civilizations” here, folks. Move along now. Nothing to see here. HT: LGF
