One third of the Democratic Party appears to have a problem with America

A number of people have written on this Fox poll question: “Do you personally want the Iraq Plan President Bush announced last week to succeed?” — to which 34% of Democrats in the poll responded “No.”

Several writers have made some excuses for the finding. It is certainly true that most Americans oppose the “surge,” and that by a 76-15 margin, American voters believe that ending the sectarian violence is not the responsibility of the US (Rasmussen). So there are an awful lot of people of every stripe who are anti-Bush at this point. However, the one third of Democrats who do not want the Iraq plan to succeed reminded us of a poll a couple of years ago in which one third of Democrats said that America was “unfair and discriminatory.” Could these be the same one third of Democrats who really don’t appear to like America very much?
