Bill Maher and Ayaan Hirsi Ali on Real Time had a discussion of Islam in the world today. Here’s the video. Maher:

“It was extremeist to begin with. Mohammed was a warrior. The big lie is that all religions are basically alike. They all preach the same thing. Well of course the Bible is full of a lot of violence. I mean God in the Old Testament is a psychpath. He just kills, kills, kills for no reason, good reason, bad reason…

But he doesn’t seem to aim it so much at outsiders. He wipes out the Jews except for Noah because they were bad, but he doesn’t keep saying…as in the Koran that if you don’t believe you are an infidel and burning would be too good for you…

And they still whack people. You know, every religion has elements within it that are very Mafia-like…but the Catholic Church has calmed down a lot since the 14th century.

to AHA: There’s a death threat on you. There’s a death threat on Salman Rushdie. They still whack people in Islam. There’s still a lot of ‘if you don’t agree with me, we’ll settle it by gertting whacked.’

There were many applause lines during this exchange, including an enthusiasm for going after Saudi Arabia in the wake of 9-11.

Unbelievably, Congressman Darrell Issa said a little later that “if you go to the Palestinian terrirories…we can talk about radical Islam, but you see no evidence of it there.” Ayaan Hirsi Ali slapped him down with a mini-lecture on being a dhimmi in a Muslim land. Maybe you can’t fool all of the people all of the time after all.
