Number 99 in a continuing series of threats

A reaction to sanctions by our good friend Mr. Ahmadinejad:

“What is the aim of issuing such resolutions? Today we are mastering the nuclear fuel cycle completely…If all of you (Westerners) get together and call your ancestors from hell as well, you will not be able to stop the Iranian nation…You sanctioned us in the past but we obtained nuclear technology. Impose economic sanctions on us today and see what would be our next step…”

We’re waiting. Manwhile, on a humorous note, Iranian oil minister Kazem, who is presiding over the demise of Iran as a petroleum exporter, had this to say about the lack of efficacy of sanctions:

Iranian Oil Minister Kazem Vaziri-Hamaneh said on Thursday that tougher United Nations sanctions would not harm development of the country’s oil and gas industry. Iran has the world’s second biggest gas reserves. “For the past 25 years we have witnessed unilateral sanctions by the United States but have developed our oil industry with the help of internal resources and the help of other countries,” Hamaneh told reporters in Vienna.

We can only hope that these people are as much blowhards on the nuclear issue as they are on their oil industry’s success and prowess.
