Bringing people together…..in Cloud Cuckoo Land

A certain politician used to divide Americans. NYT:

With his command of the science of climate change, Mr. Gore took on a professorial air in both sets of hearings, but it was touched with a preacher’s fire as he urged action…

“A day will come when our children and grandchildren will look back and they’ll ask one of two questions.”…“they will ask: what in God’s name were they doing?” or “they may look back and say: how did they find the uncommon moral courage to rise above politics and redeem the promise of American democracy?”…

“The planet has a fever. If your baby has a fever, you go to the doctor.” He added, “If the doctor says you need to intervene here, you don’t say ‘I read a science fiction novel that says it’s not a problem.’ You take action.”

Now, thank goodness, he’s bringing America and the world together. AFP:

“We are in a transition time in history when the only way we can get to where we need to be is by starting from where we are…If we simply spend our time criticising one another for where we are, that will further delay our departure for where we need to be.”

Between these remarks above and those the other day of the English government, it is all too easy now to understand the ethos of the 1930′s.

As counterpoint to the political correctness and “planetary emergency” of the moment, consider Iran’s nuclear bunkers or the 20,000-60,000 illegals from “Countries of Special Interest” who have penetrated the country over the last six years.

That may well be true. The first scenario (“what in God’s name were they doing?”) could happen if we let ourselves be guided by Gore and his ilk; the second, if an American renaissance restores our optimistic pragmatism.

I agree. It would be hard to justify taking advice on scientific matters from hypocritical failed divinity students, singers, and actors.
