A review of the UN Environmental data, even though its sketchy use of graphs to insinuate effects larger than they are, shows that we are right on track for a repeating cycle of planetary warming. The current trend shows an average temperature increase of about 0.5 o 0.75 degrees Centigrade. The last cycle, over 100,000 years ago (or about 100,000 years pre-SUV) showed an average temperature rise of over 3 degrees C.

The best they can say is "The more recent history, from the middle ages and up until now, show increasing temperatures, rising as the world emerged from the Little Ice Age (LIA), around 1850. With the industrial era, human activities have at the same time increased the level of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere, primarily through the burning of fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide is one of the main greenhouse gases, and scientists have been able to connect human activities as one of the drivers to climate change and global warming."

"...one of the drivers to climate change and global warming." Well, on that basis, I can say that one of my farts is a driver to climate change! Heck, the most significant greenhouse gas is water vapor. Good luck reducing that on a planet covered with it!

As some are coming to discover, the sun has a greater and periodic effect on global warming than anything we are likely to do. How does our newest Nobel laureate explain the current global warming (ice cap melting) on Mars?

More significantly, while Gore laments a predicted sea level rise of a few tenths of a centimeter, the last interglacial period (about 80K years ago) had an oscillating sea level rise of 3 to 6 METERS above today's levels! Again, without the help of the cursed SUVs! Who is Gore going to blame that on?

During the Mesozoic Era (the age of dinosaurs, 65 to 250 million years ago), continental ice was seemingly absent. Consequently, sea level was higher during the Mesozoic, and was at its highest (over 200 meters above the present level) 100 million years ago. So, for a period measuring a bit under 200 MILLION years, the Earth's sea level was around 500 feet above current levels.

But according to that great thinker, Al Gore, today's levels are exactly as they should be, and exactly as they should stay.

Bottom line: is it hubris or rank stupidity that makes some think that the current climate and sea level is the "perfect" or "correct" climate or sea level for this planet, and that it should be permanent?

“The Norwegian Nobel Committee...'

Norway eh?

So damned cold most of the time you'd think they'd welcome Global Warming.

It'll be interesting to see how they fare when thye cease to export all that combustible oil...as they surely must given the 'planetary emergency' :)
