My My

The WaPo reports a development that seems quite sleazy and certainly not brimming with self-confidence:

Billy Shaheen, the co-chairman of Hillary Clinton’s campaign in New Hampshire, raised the issue of Sen. Barack Obama’s past admissions of drug use in discussing the relative electability of the Democrats seeking the presidential nomination today…

Shaheen said Obama’s candor on the subject would “open the door” to further questions. “It’ll be, ‘When was the last time? Did you ever give drugs to anyone? Did you sell them to anyone?’”

“Did you sell them to anyone?” Obama as a drug dealer? My my. Do we detect a particularly unsavory subtext in all this?

No doubt we’ll see the ritual and disingenuous distancing of the campaign from the comments soon. Is it just us, or does this sort of attack seem particularly ham-fisted and inept?

    Saint Hillary wouldn’t do anything unethical! From her first big speech (1969):

    But there are some things we feel, feelings that our prevailing, acquisitive, and competitive corporate life, including tragically the universities, is not the way of life for us. We’re searching for more immediate, ecstatic and penetrating mode of living. And so our questions, our questions about our institutions, about our colleges, about our churches, about our government continue…But along with using these words — integrity, trust, and respect — in regard to institutions and leaders we’re perhaps harshest with them in regard to ourselves.

    Alas, leave it to the vast right-wing conspiracy (HT: Instapundit) to harp on the proposition that stoned people should not move into glass houses. (Have the images in the linked article have been authenticated? In any case, the piece can be read on a standalone basis.)
