More gas, less gas, in Washington and beyond

The committee chariman’s title says it all: Congressman Rep. Markey, chairman of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. Even the title is gas. And now more gas from the chairman — or is that less gas? It all depends on what the meaning of “gas” is. CNN:

“We shouldn’t be selling the drilling rights in this important polar bear habitat before deciding how we are going to protect them…It seems that every time there is a choice between extraction and extinction in this administration, extraction wins. This must not be the case for the polar bear…In the most thorough study to date, an Interior Department scientist … determined that under current trends, disappearing sea ice would result in a two-thirds drop in the world population of polar bears, resulting in the disappearance of polar bears from Alaska by 2050″

You like gas prices? Get used to them — if our congressmen have anything to do with the matter. Meanwhile, Senator Obama is getting lots of yucks from his Yucca Mountain routine in Vegas. As Henny Youngman said: “Take my nuclear waste…..please.” So apparently, when it comes to energy independence, the answer of one party is that it’s a great idea, except that all current approaches are wrong.

(Why anyone would entrust any additional important tasks, let alone healthcare, to these worthies is almost beyond human comprehension.)
