The Senator’s bad week
The cognoscenti apparently think that Senator Obama has had a marvelous week. We disagree. First he threw grandma under the bus, and, if that weren’t enough, he did it again to the old girl. Now he’s trying to change the subject — this from his most recent fundraising email to us, following some disparaging remarks about Senator Clinton and her “kitchen sink” attacks:
Senator McCain, now the presumptive Republican nominee, is already running his general election campaign. He’s so eager to justify another 100 years of war in Iraq and drum up conflict with Iran that he and his campaign have been making sloppy and woefully false assertions about links between Iran and al Qaeda in Iraq.
This seems to us not the best way to try to change the subject from Senator Obama’s decision not to effectively distance himself from his crazy uncle. We understand that going after your opponent’s strengths can be an effective strategy, but you ought to do so in a way that has at least a whiff of credibility to it. Attacking Senator McCain on his military knowledge might work with some people, but, in our view, these are mostly limited to those who are already the true believers.
Perhaps as a result of recent events, Senator Clinton has for the moment pulled ahead in the polling. We’ll see if she can keep the advantage moving in her direction.

I would have to concur with the speculation that HRC’s rise in the polls is a result of Obama’s self-inflicted wounds, but, inevitably, the limelight will again focus on HRC’s ethically challenged past. What is happening to the dems has to be a best case scenario for McCain. Better than anyone could have dreamed. Who’d a thunk it 3 or 4 months ago?

I’m a typical old white lady, and I resent Mr. Obama’s sweeping generalization. I usually try to look beyond the front man, to the politics behind him, because I know that in the end, the President doesn’t act alone. Leadership may not be the most important quality, but it’s important to me, and if Obama gets the nomination, God help me, I might have to vote Republican.
