An entirely unexpected result in such a short time
Apparently Republicans have just pulled ahead of Democrats in the generic preference poll. We recall that there was universal euphoria in Washington and in the media at the time of the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. What could have happened in a mere 60 days that, not only is the Democrat honeymoon over, but substantial numbers of the American electorate are already filing for divorce?
The GOP numbers appear to have started picking up steam at the time of Obama’s inappropriate use of the word “catastrophe” to sell his so-called stimulus bill, and continued as he introduced his $3.6 trillion Great Train Robbery of a budget — even as he was being given praise beyond praise by the media. No doubt Obama’s complete incompetence in performing the relatively easy task of fixing the financial system has made matters worse for him and the Democratic Party (not to mention the market meltdown).
The Republicans have no shortage of dumb and grotesque ideas of their own of course. However, using their current increased popularity with the electorate in order to stop the bad parts of Obama’s agenda, while taking steps to buttress the financial system and increase the appetite for risk, would be a terrific start to redeeming their own spotty track record.
