Caution, genius at work

This is the level of knowledge of the Director of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano. Toronto Star:

“Canada is not Mexico, it doesn’t have a drug war going on. It didn’t have 6,000 homicides that were drug-related last year,” Napolitano explained to Neil MacDonald of CBC News. “Nonetheless, to the extent that terrorists have come into our country, or suspected or known terrorists have come into our country, it has been across the Canadian border.” Asked whether she was referring to the perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks, Napolitano replied: “Not just those, but others as well.”

So Napolitano is unaware that none of the perpetrators of 9-11 came to the US from Canada. She also evidently doesn’t understand that illegal immigration is a crime: “when we find illegal workers, yes, appropriate action, some of which is criminal, most of that is civil, because crossing the border is not a crime per se. It is civil.”

Let’s get this straight. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano doesn’t know the history of 9-11, she doesn’t know that illegally immigrating into the US is, er, illegal, but she sure is concerned about the rightwing extremists among us. Good grief!

As the National Post asked: “Can someone please tell us how U. S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano got her job?”

Maybe they’re tightening up the Canadian border to preclude illegal emigration.

As the National Post asked: “Can someone please tell us how U. S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano got her job?”

And how did she get reelected a border-state governor in a landslide?

    It’s the government we deserve, I guess… :-(

How did she get her job? Rhetorical question. I know, but I will take a stab at it anyway. She’s a woman. The cabinet must be multi-culti and ‘look like America’, to re-use an old phrase. Merit/competence has nothing to do with it.

    And yet…and yet…

I took another look at Napolitano’s bio:

While still serving as attorney general, she spoke at the 2000 Democratic National Convention just three weeks after having a mastectomy. Napolitano remembers the pain being so bad she could hardly stand up…

How to reconcile such heroic determination with the smug incompetence that Jack decries?

IMO Paul’s comment two months ago is relevant:

It’s what you get from a team of glorified clerks, Yale/Harvard system gamers. They’ve grade grubbed, networked, sniffed their way to the top and now out in front, in the clear and separated from their elderly, formal mandarin institutions are clueless.

To an increasingly dangerous extent, our society trains and selects its high achievers using incentives that are bad for our society.

    Janet Reno was unavailable.

Well said, gs. And we haven’t mentioned one obvious qualification needed, belief in the ideology. From her actions so far, it is clear to me that she and Obama are kindred spirits.

    gs, you make me sad.
You’re right, no arguement there, but the fact that this is the ELECTED government is a tragic statement that Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin were right, the American experiment would fail and the tree of liberty would have to be watered every 25 years.
I say we should all move to Texas and secede. Janet probably would be grateful, how many illegal mexicans would come through there then?
As for you, feeblemind, do you really think these monsters believe in anything but their own superiority over the rest of us “unwashed masses?”

Janet “Wile E. Coyote” Napolitano is a sterling example of the Left’s leadership who get all their news, views, facts and education from the New York Times and the Washington Post. Running a country isn’t Rocket Science… However, keeping it from running into the ground at speed, may be.

    sigh:

…Napolitano admitted Thursday that she made a mistake — since the 9/11 Commission concluded that the hijackers entered the U.S. from overseas.

But when asked about the gaffe on FOX News Friday, McCain said: “Well, some of the 9/11 hijackers did come through Canada, as you know.”
