Obama’s strange, nonsensical assertions about his healthcare plan
President Obama was on the Today Show. Boston Globe:
Obama defended his insistence on Congress passing healthcare overhaul legislation before its August summer recess. “If you don’t set a deadline in this town, nothing happens…And the deadline isn’t being set by me. It’s being set by the American people…I’ve also said that health care costs are the biggest drivers of our deficit. Nobody disputes that.”
A couple of points. First, when even a biased poll of 2:1 Obama voters shows that 77% of those people are reasonably satisfied with the quality of their own health care, it is not at all apparent that any rush-rush deadline is “being set by the American people.” That’s absurd.
Second, take a look at the phrase “health care costs are the biggest drivers of our deficit. Nobody disputes that.” It is revealing. First, it’s simply not true. Although entitlements like social Security and Medicare are Ponzi schemes that are out of control, health care costs are in no way “the biggest drivers of our deficit.” True, expenses exceed income, but not by much today and the so-called “trust fund” lasts until 2017. But beyond that, how does choosing to increase the health care budget by $634 billion help solve any problems at all? And how can a man whose budget is a grotesque $3.6 trillion, and whose $10 trillion in new deficits are unfinancible even if the rich are soaked at 100% tax rates, manage to state such gibberish with a straight face?
But perhaps the most interesting little point is Obama’s absurd statement that “nobody disputes” his factually challenged assertions. In our experience such strange and easily disproven bravado reveals insecurity. We tend to agree with Roger Simon that Obama is beginning to sound a little “panicky” on his health care plan. And that would be a good thing indeed for the nation and the quality of American healthcare.

If Obama is sounding panicky his demeanor does not betray it on the TV, nor does the press reflect that. And it is precisely because he can lie with such glibness that he has succeeded to date. So I take no comfort in your analysis — in fact I fear he will succeed in pushing something through, it will be an anchor on the economy and drive up health care costs, and he will manage to consolidate even more power under his control. My bottom line reaction is: “be afraid, be very afraid.” This is not an auspicious moment for a free market economy or republican form of government. Alas America. F

I would agree with some of your statement. He repeats his own talking points. Remember the strategy: stick to the same message and it will eventualy be accepted as fact. Still, a sea change is coming. I feel it as do you. The press even senses it. Look at what we’ve seen recently from them with regard to “almost” publishing the truth. If they didn’t think that some sort of payback was coming would they even dare to get that close to reporting what is actually happening?

I understand English. I have an adequate vocabulary. I know when someone is using a lot of words to say nothing, and I can understand why that might be convincing to some people.
We are beyond that point. The president is lying to the American people. I know the difference between an honest mistake and an attempt to deceive. I don’t know if he is deluding himself, or if he is just a liar. Either way, he must now prove every statement he makes before I will believe him.
His popularity is cratering as his deceptions become more obvious. Change is not always for the better. Everything is not worth the price, unless someone else is paying.

I agree with markD. obama has gone way past the line of “spin” and is now just a liar.

Yeah, I am unable to follow the logic of someone that yesterday said: “its not about me” and then today says “you are going to destroy my presidency”.

Obama sure looks like a putz.
His supporters are starting to stand around, whistling a little tune, and wonder why everything is going to hell in a handbasket. That is forcing Obama to step to the fore and steady the troops.
He is not convincing nor comforting. He exposes himself as a charlatan.
