Irrational?

Katrrina Vanden Heuval says some Americans have an “irrational fear” of government:

The rabid protestors opposing Obama are representatives of a long national tradition: an irrational fear of a strong central government.

Gee, we thought that was among the most important elements that created the country. In other news:

“Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet…would allow the president to ‘declare a cybersecurity emergency’ relating to ‘non-governmental’ computer networks and do what’s necessary”…

Irrational fear? The government can tax you, regulate you, prosecute you, impoverish you with litigation, and possibly throw you in jail at the end of it all. In the healthcare debate, a critical difference between the will to power in the private sector and the will to power in the public sector is this: you can sue an insurance company that’s done you dirt but you can’t sue the government for doing the same thing.

Not only is there what government can do TO you directly, but there is harm by omission.

Politicians, lawyers and/or thugs that should be prosecuted, are left off the hook. All sorts of evil is allowed, as long as it is done in the “properly connected” circles.

So if the government isn’t sticking it to you enough, their mob like cronies and underlings will get you on the other end. Selective enforcement is a concern, but the break down of justice is my bigger rational “fear”.
