About that “Allahu Akbar” — The fact that Hassan reportedly shouted the above is meant, I suppose, to imply that he was an extremist fanatic. I’m not sure that it does. My understanding is that it’s something Arab people often shout before doing something or other. It’s used in many different situations.

We agree. There’s no evidence that this fellow Hasan was a bad actor. Can’t we just focus on the positive? As President Obama said about the fall of the Berlin Wall: “few would have foreseen…that a united Germany would have been led by a woman from Brandenburg or that their American ally would be led by a man of African descent?” Doesn’t everyone feel better now?
