A vignette of our times
Jack Cashill recalls a speech by Barack Obama in 2002:
Obama gave his belated approval to World War II and sang the praises of his grandfather, who fought in Patton’s army and “heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka.”
By Memorial Day 2008, however, Obama was claiming that it was his “uncle” who was “part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz.” When reminded that his mother was an only child and his father a Kenyan, Obama designated his “great uncle” as the liberator of Auschwitz.
This proved problematic as well because Auschwitz, as the Republican National Committee gleefully pointed out, was actually liberated by the Soviets. No matter. Obama was learning that he could say pretty much anything he wanted without consequence.
Countries like Russia and China laugh at the US behind our backs (and openly too). The nation has become unserious as the national government obsesses on absurd superstitions like toxic breath and AGW. And, as Cashill points out, the media are knee-deep in abetting the decline.

“the media are knee-deep in abetting the decline.” I must disagree – the media is one of the main agents responsible for the decline in the USA, both in its state and deservedly poor reputation. Academia is responsible for much of all this, too.
The media and academia are willing, useful idiots of Gramsci’s revised Marxism – capitalism will NOT fall, it must be brought down from within the media, the education system, and the bureaucracy. It is working all too well.

Yes, it is a damned shame that none in the media have the moxie to call out Team 44′s constant delusions during their never ending campaign.

I think, like a drunk, “we” – society must hit bottom before we can build something worthwhile again.

Chris, I fear you are right since that appears to be where we are headed.
By the way, I havne’t heard any further news reporst about the big media bailout. Has anyone else? Could it be that it will be buried in the new stim package this administration wants? And if it comes to pass, can anything the press–written or otherwise–be believed after that?
