The dreariest part

The dreariest part of watching the relentless push for Obamacare is that this mess of an administration was completely avoidable and it still has three more years to go. In 2008 America elected the equivalent of François Mitterrand or James Callaghan and it would not have done so if Obama had not pretended to be a moderate and had the media done its job. Indeed, more than likely he wouldn’t even have gotten nominated and Hillary Clinton would probably be President today.

From all appearances Obama truly doesn’t care that much about a second term, and so we just have to watch the spectacle of a guy (with the help of his media cheerleaders) governing against the will of a majority of the American people. Maybe things will change after November, but it’s a long time until 2012 and it’s awfully difficult to repeal laws — even ones as firmly opposed by the people as Obamacare is.
