Politicians aren’t supposed to talk like this
Governor Christie vetoed a tax hike and said:
more and more people have left the state and continue to leave the state because of the tax situation. And, as I’ve said before, you’re not going to fix this tax situation by continuing to load more and more taxes onto people who have both the ability to leave the state and the inclination to leave the state if they feel they are being treated unfairly.
New Jersey does not have a tax problem. That we don’t have enough tax revenue. We have a spending and size of government problem and we need to start saying “no.” And, today is another one of those examples of saying “no.”
I just don’t believe that if you spoke to a majority of people in New Jersey, they would say to you, “Yeah, you know what? The government does not have enough revenue to do the job. We just don’t send them enough money, let’s send them some more. Because, they don’t have enough. It’s not that they are spending it so wisely, they just don’t have enough money.”
Sadly, the video of Christie dressing down an insipid reporter is no longer available. However, there should be no shortage of amusing clips from this fellow as time goes on. The GOP has an interesting group of governors at the moment. It will be interesting to see how this plays out as 2012 approaches. We think a strong majority of Americans are ready for some straight talk and are pretty tired of unicorns and fairy tales at this point.

Slight correction. The video of Gov. Christie is still available, but with the Star-Ledger watermark in it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_dDtnr8SlE
