Revisionist history at light speed

Reuters:

U.S. accounts of what happened have changed throughout the week, and initial characterizations of a 40-minute gun battle have given way to officials being quoted as saying only one of the five people who were killed had been armed…Two senior Pakistani security officials, citing their investigation, said there was no firefight because the inhabitants never fired back. “The people inside the house were unarmed. There was no resistance,” one of the officials said. “It was cold-blooded,” said the second official when asked if there was any exchange of fire during the operation which, U.S. officials said lasted nearly 40 minutes.

NYT:

the only shots fired by those in the compound came at the beginning of the operation, when Bin Laden’s trusted courier, Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti, opened fire from behind the door of the guesthouse adjacent to the house where Bin Laden was hiding. After the Seal members shot and killed Mr. Kuwaiti and a woman in the guesthouse, the Americans were never fired upon again. This account differs from an official version of events issued by the Pentagon

What about all the “lunging”? The woman who lunged at the SEALS? The son Khalid who also lunged at a SEAL? And bin Laden himself, who “appeared to lunge for a weapon.”

What are we to make of conflicting descriptions of what went down by people who were not there at the time?

The Pakistanis are so credible. I wonder how they explain Bin Laden’s residence there.
