All the respect they deserve

Politico:

Sarah Palin’s tour a rolling menace…The reporters who are speeding, tailgating, cutting off other cars, blasting through roundabouts and passing on the right in an effort to keep up, say they have no other choice since they never know what Palin’s up to or where she’s headed — and aides typically won’t tell them anything. Once they’re on the road, they’re filing urgent updates by phone and figuring out unorthodox bathroom breaks, like the reporter who pulled over to relieve himself on the side of the highway going from Gettysburg, Pa., to Philadelphia — drawing notice from both Palin aides and the rest of the trailing press. “It’s like paparazzi,” said one reporter who followed Palin to the Thursday evening clambake. “It’s like following Princess Diana.”…On Wednesday, after a police escort led the bus through a closed section of the Lincoln Tunnel, the bus ran at least two red lights racing up Sixth Avenue and through Columbus Circle in Midtown Manhattan. Before long, a cop pulled up, pointing out to the first reporter trailing the bus how many lights they were running.

Oh golly, she’s so “dangerous!” What a great life Sarah Palin has. She’s touring the country with her family, having a grand time, making lots of money, and saying whatever the heck she wants. And on top of it all she gets to punk the media (not one of whom would vote for her if she showed them the courtesies they’d like) every single day. Paradise on a half-shell!

  1. David/California Says:

They spied on her and searched her trash, and claimed they were just being objective. They slandered her daughters, and claimed they were professionals. They selectively edited her interviews, and claimed they were unbiased. They criticized her clothes, her hair, her vocabulary, and her education, and claimed they were much better than National Inquirer. They called her stupid, and claimed they were just reporting the facts.

And now Sarah Palin is proving to the world that the difference between ‘professional journalist’ and sweaty, mouth-breathing paparazzi is invisible to the naked eye.

    Ah, revenge is sweet…

Very well said, in both instances.

But paparazzi are not generally out to destroy their target … nor do they show contempt for them. They will print good and bad.

Palin was more correct on the Bush doctrine question than “Gotcha Gibson”, and Gibson has the answers ahead of time. Still … they pilloried her over that, as Chucky looked over his glasses and down his nose.

Palin’s time with Couric looked bad … I think the staffers crammed her head full of strategic answers, and she was just overwhelmed, trying to thread the strategy needle with her every phrase. They threw her to the wolves a little early.

Someone made a good point the other night … the greater division than Democrat and Republican is “us” and “them”. The insiders versus the real people … the rest of us. My view of the Tea Party is that they are that 70% … Pelosi/Reid/Obama represent very few.

I like Palin poking big media with a stick … but would prefer her outsider spunk combined with some deeper business bona fides for president. Gary Johnson? Is that Jack Risko guy running? He would fit in with the Yale/Harvard presidential tradition. :)
