And it’s only the bottom of the first inning

We have said that the US is only in the first inning of dealing with its debt problem. Most of the contest lies ahead. But you wouldn’t know that from the rhetoric. How can it escalate as the game goes forth beyond what it is now? NYT:

Never negotiate with terrorists. It only encourages them. These last few months, much of the country has watched in horror as the Tea Party Republicans have waged jihad on the American people…For now, the Tea Party Republicans can put aside their suicide vests. But rest assured: They’ll have them on again soon

As for us, we would not have voted in favor of the deal. Spending must be reined in, and only no means no. Furthermore, the government’s policies — so forthrightly championed by the media of today — continue to produce an economic train wreck. Best to be as far away from that mess as possible. Sad, really, when the correct policies are so simple and obvious.

I would have voted ‘no” as well.

No one is saying what time span an “inning” is, but my thinking it is more like the last of the 7th rather than the first.

The financial markets seem to be coming around to the thinking that the borrowing can’t go on forever, while the majority of politicians seem to think it can. One wonders if Government’s hand will be forced by the markets before too much longer?

If it wasn’t all so serious, this would be one entertaining and suspenseful ‘movie” to be living in.
