We agree with Wretchard on Egypt and the unfortunate US government floundering. Even the NYT is noticing that the government is focusing on sideshows instead of real, urgent news. But this fails to give the administration credit. The whole point of the last years has been feel-good speechifying on topics that will get the Julia’s out to vote. When something unfortunate happens in the real world, such as Benghazi or all the many other scandals, the issue is to control the narrative, and if possible shift the media focus to some neat new thing. Incompetence is the wrong word to describe this conscious, detailed process and strategy.
